This took out a couple of major awards at the most recent Yarra Valley Wine Show. It's not hard to see why. For the most part it's an impeccable cool climate Australian shiraz. It's a mix of white and black pepper, roasted fennel and dark meaty cherry. Texturally it has a smooth slipperiness and it's intensely savoury and autumnal through the finish. It's more foodie than fruity. The aftertaste pushes the boundaries re: a cool bitterness and it has some funky, gamey notes that some drinkers will find challenging. But it's a complex, interesting wine – and such wines deserve recognition.
