Valdesil's two Mencía wines make up a very small proportion of the Bodega's production. The red vineyards comprise old bush vines planted on the south-facing slate slopes around the high-altitude village of O Moullón (in the mountainous eastern limits of Valdeorras). The rocky soils, high altitude and cooling Atlantic weather patterns here sculpt juicy, racy, tangy, cherry scented, light to medium bodied reds reds - and that's exactly what we have here.
"Vibrant floral and dark berry aromas are complemented by cracked pepper and smoky minerals. Sappy raspberry and blackberry flavors are given lift and spine by tangy acidity. Fresh, elegant and precise, finishing with persistent dark berry and violet notes. This is an excellent introduction to mencia, at a great price." 90 points, Josh Raynolds, Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar
